New Year's Relationship Resolutions

The beginning of each new year tends to be a time of reflection. We look at where we are, and where we would like to be. These thoughts often lead to resolutions of things we wish to change in our lives.

Perhaps you have given some thought about your relationship with your partner. Do you have any resolutions this year regarding your relationship? I wanted to share an exercise with those of you who may be desiring a stronger connection in your relationship. Building fondness and admiration for your partner is important to feeling connected to your partner. As life becomes more busy and chaotic, we often lose sight of how much our partners mean to us.

The following are some questions to ask yourself each day to help build fondness for your partner. Pick one to focus on each day of the week.

Monday: Think about a special time, or romantic time you had with your partner. Take a moment to reminisce about a cherished memory, perhaps a romantic getaway or a simple evening spent together. Recall the warmth of their smile, the sound of their laughter, and the joy you felt in their presence. Reflecting on these moments can reignite the spark in your relationship and remind you of the love you share.

Tuesday: What is one physical attribute you like about your partner? Appreciating your partner's physical appearance can deepen your attraction to them and enhance your bond. Whether it's their captivating eyes, infectious smile, or comforting embrace, focus on a physical trait that you find particularly appealing. Expressing admiration for their appearance can boost their confidence and strengthen your connection.

Wednesday: Write about a time you and your partner had fun together. Recall a moment of shared laughter and joy, whether it was exploring a new place, trying a new activity, or simply goofing around at home. Write about the happiness you experienced together and how it strengthened your bond. Reliving these joyful moments can foster a sense of camaraderie and remind you of the importance of having fun as a couple.

Thursday: Think about one characteristic that you find endearing about your partner. Consider the qualities that make your partner unique and special to you. Whether it's their kindness, sense of humor, or unwavering support, focus on a characteristic that you deeply admire. Reflect on how this trait enriches your relationship and contributes to your mutual happiness. Acknowledging these qualities can deepen your appreciation for your partner and strengthen your emotional connection.

Friday: Write about one characteristic that makes you proud of your partner. Reflect on the qualities that make your partner admirable and commendable. Whether it's their resilience in the face of challenges, their dedication to their passions, or their compassion towards others, identify a characteristic that fills you with pride. Write about how this trait inspires you and enhances your admiration for your partner. Recognizing their strengths can reaffirm your respect and admiration for them as an individual.

Once you have completed these, pick a time at the end of the week to share your thoughts and writing with your partner. Leave a note for them the following day about the things you were thinking about the previous day to show them how much you admire and value them. Show them how much you appreciate your relationship with them.

By engaging in this exercise regularly, you can cultivate a deeper sense of fondness and admiration for your partner, strengthening your bond and enriching your relationship. Take the time to cherish the moments you share and express your love and appreciation openly. Your relationship will thrive as you nurture your connection and celebrate the unique qualities that make your partnership special.
