Payment for counseling services
My counseling services are self-pay only. I am not in network with insurance companies; therefore, I cannot bill to insurance companies or other employee assistance programs. I can provide you with a receipt at the end of the therapy or counseling session, and you can choose to submit it for possible reimbursement with your insurance company. It is important to know that many insurance companies do not see a medical necessity for couples counseling, which means they will not cover it. If you have any questions or concerns about the investment you are making, please feel free to discuss them with me prior to your appointment and check with your insurance provider.
Fees are collected at the beginning of each session. Cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover are accepted. Typically, you may also use your Flex account or Health Savings account to pay for sessions. I do not accept CareCredit.
Therapy appointments require a 24-hour notice for cancellation, or you will be charged for the session.
There are many reasons therapists choose not to take insurance:
Some therapy or counseling services are not covered by insurance. This is often true for couples or marriage therapy services.
You manage your care and therapy treatment. Insurance companies limit who you can work with and what will be covered. They also determine the type of counseling and the length of counseling.
Your records are not shared with anyone unless you give written permission for someone to have access to them (with the exception of cases protected by law, your safety or the safety of others is at risk). When insurance is used, your therapy or counseling information becomes part of your medical record.
Insurance requires a mental health diagnosis. Many issues discussed in counseling do not meet criteria for a diagnosis, such as marriage counseling or parenting issues.
Your mental health records will not cause future issues regarding future employment, life insurance, or healthcare.
You know what you are paying for, there are no unexpected costs. Lack of insurance reimbursement and high deductibles can lead to large bills for some.
Clinical Supervision and consultation
As an approved supervisor of marriage and family therapy in North Dakota, I also offer clinical supervision for therapists and counselors who are in the process of obtaining their license in marriage and family therapy in North Dakota. The fee for clinical supervision is $200 per clinical hour for individual supervision.
