Sexual Health Counseling
Seeking counseling for sexual issues can be a difficult process. Many individuals can struggle with shame, guilt, or fear around the area of sexuality. Often these feelings can feed secrecy and keep them at a place where they don't feel deserving of a joyful life. These feelings may be due to a variety of reasons, and understanding them and knowing how to deal with them is very important. My approach in providing therapy regarding sexual health is to explore the concerns regarding sexuality that meet an individual's needs and desires, while still being in alignment with their personal value system.

In the state of North Dakota and greater Minnesota, my qualifications in the area of sexual health are unique. I have over a decade of professional training and experience treating individuals/partners with sexually compulsive behaviors, also referred to as sexual addiction. I am currently the only therapist or counselor in North Dakota and greater Minnesota who is a candidate for certification in sexual addiction.
Problematic Sexual Behavior and Sexual Addiction

More and more people are finding their sexual behaviors (or their partner's behaviors) becoming problematic. Problematic sexual behaviors have become prevalent with the increase in access and affordability of materials on the internet, and the ability to be anonymous while online. For example, chronic pornography use has lead to severe medical issues for many men such as erectile dysfunction, loss of libido, delayed ejaculation, and anorgasmia.
Sexuality is an important part of our life experience. However, when sex becomes all consuming, or when one deprives themselves of healthy sexual expression, sexuality acts as a barrier filled with shame. Unhealthy sexual behaviors can isolate individuals from attachment with others and prevent them from developing healthy relationships with others.
On the other hand, healthy sexual behavior, creates intimacy and closeness. It is characterized by trust, respect, joy and safety.
